STRIPPED BARE

A Personal Story for those who may relate

The direction of my work as a photographer took an unexpected turn a few years ago when my personal life as I knew it began to crumble beneath me. The timing could not have been worse as these events happened to collide with the global pandemic which to me felt like a last leg being taken out. I was floored, this was my rock bottom!

It is during such chapters one is left with the choice to either evolve or perish. This was the beginning of a very slow, painful but enlightening and transformative path of healing. As an artist I believe my work to be reflective of where I am at in this journey called Life. Amongst the loss and grief came a stripping away of the old self and the peeling back of past patterns. A lot of shedding was in order. All of the styling I used to be so attracted to within my photography as well as my day to day life seemed so ill-suited now with the way I was feeling; perhaps even a little pretentious? Hence, the falling away of these coverings allowing a more free and simplified unwrapped self to emerge.

This experience although seemingly negative at the time changed me forever in a deep way and I am so grateful for that. I’ve come to learn that inner healing and transformation can only occur once we give ourselves the love, acceptance and acknowledgement we are all so worthy of and finally get real with ourselves and practice stamping out that destructive, often persistant voice of self hate!

And this is what I wish to portray in my work, letting go of unrealistic ideas of perfection making way for freedom, flow and authenticity. Being brave and vulnerable enough to let that True Inner Beauty shine through encouraging us to all look at oursleves through the lens of LOVE.
